Officer and Gentlemen Academy

The Officer and Gentleman Academy (co-sponsored by Evanston/Skokie District 65 and the Evanston Police Department) kicked their 12 week program off yesterday teaching 15 young men how to tie a tie and sharing with them the importance of wearing a tie, when they should wear a tie and overall just how to “show up” as a person of color.  This truly was a blessed event and well represented by Black men in the community ranging from Police Officers, Chessmen, Educators and Administrators.   A special shout out to Mr. Adrian Harries (Nichols Principal), Adam Howard (Evanston Police Department) and Bryon Harris (D65 Student Engagement Coordinator) for having the vision and energy to put this Academy and program together.  These are the types of programs that the Chessmen organization fully embraces as it teaches these young men how to be strong black men that value who they are and to value those who are around them.
